If not, then why do they feel the need to segregate themselves from regular Americans with a label. Didn't MLK fight against segregation?

Sorry that should be they and travel, we need more character space to ask a decent question.

If they don't want to segregate themselves then why all the "blacks only" events...Ms. Black USA etc....I won't go down the list we are all familiar with them. That is indeed willful segregation.

Leveling the playing field does not mean one side goes down and the other comes up, leveling the playing field means get off of your @$$ and catch up, and yes anytime you exclude others and set yourself apart based on race it is indeed segregation.

The passport is the same for all US citizen. Now, to answer your question, "African-Americans" first need to understand that being "black" is NOT a racist label. This is what they are, and they need to accept that. That's why we ended up labeling people in America with their ancestors origin...in my view "African-American" IS a racist label, because it sets black people apart from the rest of the American society. Isn't it funny how we don't even see that? next, I would suggest to any black person reading this, please take this experiment just for one day and you will see life in a very different way: after starting your day when you get out there, if anyone makes a negative comment about you, don't use that "oh it's because I'm black that's why he/she judging me negatively..." but stop your negative thoughts for a second and introspect on that remark...then move on, keep doing that all day long and at the end of the day I guarantee you, you'll see that race is just you judging someone opinon in regard to your skin color. If you accept any remark coming from someone of different color than you, like coming from a peer of yours (same race), you'll never see racism the same way you see it today!!!
Finally, I personally think that among ALL black people in the world, "African-American" blacks born in the United States are the worst: they could have been the role model for all other black people living in the third world. They live in the Western civilization, they are exposed to the most modern technological advanced society in the world today, to the best democratic and free society, one of the best education, and yet only a very tiny percentage of them sees that. Sometimes I think that, to be successful in the black community, one must be a "reverend" and a "civil right activist"....when will blacks people stop thinking that way and see the other side?
Note: this is just a general comment, NOT ALL black people are like that, there is always exceptions and I know there are some good and well assimilated black persons out there.

That's funny. Last I checked, the people who started the segregation weren't black, but white. The people who continue to segregate blacks with labels, the people in power, are white.
Stop pointing the finger at us and talk to your "leaders".
And here's your answer to the "Blacks Only" events question. Something a lot of you people just don't seem to understand:
Blacks make up 12% of the population. It's also no debate that blacks have been mistreated and considered unequal for centuries. The Civil rights movement ended (somewhat) not even fifty years ago. The black race is still a very underrepresented race.
So why are there "black only" events? To level the playing field. You do realize that "leveling the playing field" actually requires the act of "leveling", don't you? Do you know what "leveling" means?
The lower group must be brought up a bit and the higher group must be brought down a bit. This is leveling.
There is a NAACP because blacks have very different needs than whites, as non-pc as that sounds.
There are black beauty pageants because they are clearly underrepresented in regular ones.
To sum it all up, there are black only events and such so that some day, blacks will be more integrated into society.

No, there is no separate passport for races in the US...obviously. Being a white woman, I cannot answer for African Americans as to why they "feel the need to segregate themselves" from "regular" (your words) Americans.
In the US, and I'm sure in the UK and other countries there is a phenomenon of cultures congregating together, i.e. you will readily find in major cities a Chinatown, a Little Italy, a Little Warsaw, etc. You will also have black, Korean, Indian, Vietnamese, Laotian, Cuban and Mexican neighborhoods. It is easier for cultures to stick together to buy the food and goods that they appreciate. They can speak in their own tounge, and listen to the music they love. I don't think it is necessarily an "us against them" mentality, so much as a means of a way of life that is more familiar, and a reminder of what they left behind in the "old country."
Often it is a question of poverty. If one manages to escape from a poor existance into college, and then into suburbia (no matter what race or color one happens to be), is the cycle broken? Would they rather live in this way with us boring white folk, or would they rather live in their own vibrant culture? I can imagine which I would choose.

No, it would be discrimination if blacks were required to have special passports to TRAVEL abroad. Black people do NOT want to segregate themselves. It is actually the opposite. Black people would like to be accepted not for the color of their skin but for their character. Martin Luther King fought not only to end segregation but for equality and justice for all. I don't understand what you mean when you say black only events. People of other races are highly encouraged to come to black sponsored events so that can learn about another culture in a positive light instead of what they hear or see on television. The label African American is only identifying who they are. Other ethnic groups also carry the name of their ethnic group followed by American when they are descendants of a certain ethnicity but live in America such as Asian American, Irish American, and German American.

No we don't have special passports. (that's silly)
But what's wrong with having a Miss Black America, or historically black colleges?...we're just celebrating ourselves. Celebrating being proud. Because if we don't, no one else will.
And what do you mean by "regular American?"
Yes, Dr. King fought against segregation, but having Miss Black America events or Black sororities and fraternities isn't even in the same realm.

To my knowledge, Americans all have the same passport and although I have no doubt you believe what you wrote, most African Americans don't want to segregate nor do they.
True there are pockets of insular communities but what about the Amish or the Asian communities, they have their 'areas' as well.
Don't confuse cultural identity with wilful segregation, they are not the same thing.

Uh no and you're really ignorant. I could care less about "black only" events and most of my friends are white so I definitely don't segregate myself in any way. Why is it that people only bash on blacks when other people also have group specific events/organizations? Also, for blacks who do feel the need to keep to themselves, I'm sure they're trying to stay away from people like you who ignorantly stereotype and judge them.

in my opinion I want the term black to AFrican American. Why is it that human beings of dark epidermis must be referred to as African human beings while those with white epidermis are purely American? we are all American... and after a at the same time as people who've lived right here for diverse generations now no longer strongly go at the same time with their mom lands for the reason that maximum of generations in the previous them spent their lives contributing to American society. we are all American

As far as I know there is are not separate passports based on race. There are various ones for the military or other government type service, but none based on race.

A special passport, because they are considered more dangerous tourists so other countries want to know what they're getting.
