The reason why are we here is simple... every human being rather every living being is like a piece of a puzzle. The moment an individual part of puzzle gains enlightenment and reaches the abode of God (kingdom of God aka Baikuntha in Hinduism) it merges with the supreme whole... God Almighty himself.

The day when all individual pieces of the puzzle gain enlightenment and reach the kingdom of God... the purpose of creating the cosmos completes! It is now time for dissolution of the cosmos (aka Pralaya in Hinduism). The mighty puzzle... that we call Almighty God has been completed. All purified souls' atmans in the cosmos collect together to form the size of half a thumb.

Bhagavad Gita, the most sacred document existing on Mother Earth clearly stipulates that this mighty power... the collective force of all purified souls atmans in the cosmos (the size of half a thumb) unable to contain itself for long explodes with a big bang and starts a new cosmos.

Again all these souls’ atmans which were pure in their pristine original form now gather dross on their cosmic journey. These souls’ atmans can come back to the kingdom of God after passing through a cycle of 8.4 million manifestations (a total journey of 96.4 million earthly years).

Initially manifesting as an amoeba, then insect life, plant life, animal life and finally the form of a human being! And as a human being we definitely ask, "Why are we here". It is only as a human being the soul atman within can gain liberation forever and free itself of the cycle of manifesting a body again and again.

The life cycle of a soul atman culminates with every human being reaching the stage of enlightenment and finally salvation (aka moksha in Hinduism). In the cosmic system... the concept is absolutely clear. We only need to introspect and arrive at a conclusion. More on why are we here - http://www.godrealized.org/why_god_made_this_world.html

We are all here because God has willed us to be here. Each one of us has a unique calling on our lives through Jesus Christ when we accept him as Lord and Saviour of our lives.
Then and only then will your life ever have any real meaning.
Jesus is the author of life - so in and through Him, we find true puropse.

Why does there have to be a reason? Obviously, we're here because of procreation. Who needs a reason? just get on with it.
