Not a joke, I want an answer. Why do some poops 'float' and others 'sink'. Is one a sign of better health than the other?

Poop that floats have higher fat content. This may be a sign that you are not producing enough bile salts to dissolve and absorb all the fats in your diet (is your poop pale, too?). Otherwise, maybe you are eating too much fat. If you are producing less bile salts, this may be a sign of liver or gall bladder problems. Steatorrhea is fatty diarrhea that floats.

Some poop might float while others don't due to the densities of it relative to water or another liquid. If it has a less density than water, it will float and vice versa. The composition is of it will determine what the density will be, which will directly related to the diet the organism consumes. I do not think think flotation of poop is an effective measure of health, since person who consumes a vegetarian diet and a person who consumes a non-vegetarian diet could be equally healthy.

Generally, floaters tend to carry more fat, so I would say that sinkers are probably indicitive of a healthier diet, but this is not a hard and fast rule.
