I was an adult when Roots first aired in the 70's. I had already read the book, and while the book was powerful, the images from the movie were so much so, which you will seldom hear me say. I love to read. But the good thing about the whole miniseries is that they tried to be true to what life was like during those times, and while as a Black person I may not appreciate what they were like, I appreciate the fact that the producers and directors made the effort to tell the truth as closely as possible. Fortunately for me, the miniseries will air before Heroes returns - I would really hate to miss Heroes.
FYI: Alex Haley is dead and cannot benefit from ANYTHING happening at this point.

Haley was sued for plagiarism in 1978; he settled out-of-court for a mere $650,000, having admitted that large passages of Roots were copied from the book: The African by Harold Courlander.
Courlander's pre-trial memorandum in the copyright infringement lawsuit stated: "Defendant Haley had access to and substantially copied from The African. Without The African, Roots would have been a very different and less successful novel, and indeed it is doubtful that Mr. Haley could have written Roots without The African. . . . Mr. Haley copied language, thoughts, attitudes, incidents, situations, plot and character."The copying is significant and extensive....Roots...plainly uses the book throughout his novel".
You don't support a person that steals another's book and makes thousands on the movie rights. Anyone that has ever tried to follow their families own genelogy ie 'roots' will find its not as easy to find out about one's ancestors as Haley seemed to find it.

Yes! I was so young when it was on many moons ago so I don't remember much. I remember some major scenes in the movie and would love to watch it again. Hopefully, I'll trace my roots back that far too!

I would not watch the movie again because it made me angry to see our people be abused mentally and physically i can't bear the thought of having to watch it. It's like watching one of your loved ones be beat by master when they wanted our women and the women wanted the "Mandingo's". Please don't get me started. They hated us then and still do it's coming out all over the place we see it everyday in the media. But every summer they want to be tan, they dress like us some even try to wear their hair like ours. To society that the racism war is over when in fact it's not. I even see racism in the black community that we all tend to ignore. I have to sign off I'm getting angry! It's a shame that for most of us the only knowledge of self comes from a movie why can't they teach it all year round like other cultures. We get 1 month and most of that is white-washed!

i don't shop up with television lots, for the reason that i'm getting approximately 3-4 channels and those rely on how nicely my antenna remains aligned. besides the shown fact that, in the event that they are showing "Roots" on television returned, it supplies me desire that sometime they'd teach "Shogun" on television returned. in the event that they ever teach that one, i will have my husband carry the antenna so i will checklist it devoid of the ghost image! (that's, in the event that they teach it on a channel i will %. up...)
