Hi, I need a LOT of help with my Algebra 1 homework... You see, I have this "dimension" of a square, but I really have NO idea what that means...

I also don't get how a "dimension" can be that of a radical? I mean, I have to find the area of a square when the dimension = 1 + √2 . Does anybody know how to do that!?!
Is there some kinda formula or w/e that I have to follow...?

Ugh, pleeeaaase help me... =)

Trying to understand your question, it sounds like you have been given the length of the square's diagonal.

Use Pythagorean theorum to find length of one side. (consider triangle with equal sides, so a=b, and c is the length of the diagonal).

Then square the length of one side to find area.

Sounds more like geometry than algebra to me...

The area is multipling the dimensions. The dimensions are the measurments of the "line segments". For ex.- if a square is 2" high and 4"long this means the other side is the same..so you would have 2 sides 2" and 2 sides 4". You multiply them to get the area which is the amount of space in the middle of the square. I'm not doing your homework for you- just trying to explain the method.

Well, to find the area of a square, you must know that all sides have the same length. So if one side is (1 + √2), all sides are (1 + √2). To find to area, you multiply two sides, or (s)²:
(1 + √2)²
(1 + √2)(1 + √2)
From here, you use the FOIL method.
1 + 2√2 + 2 which can be reduced to
3 + 2√2 = Area of the square

Dimensions of a square are the length and the width.
Multiply those two together to get the area.
A 2ft by 2ft square has an area of 4ft squared.
