I just tried going into some suggested sites, like ninjaproxy.com and others, but big brother has them blocked.
If this helps, I can go into Yahoo and into finance, sports ect... BUT NOT MAIL.

If you are using their network and their hardware, well, they can monitor anything going over the company's network. Read your employee handbook...you likely signed a technology policy that tells you that you do not own anything you send through their network and that you have no privacy either as far as electronic communications are concerned.

You can try those proxy services, but the answer is still the same. Most network policies are set to where you cannot download or install that material anyway. Keep your online time at work 'work-oriented' with maybe just a couple of visits a day to your home email. Do not open anything that could be construed as inappropriate. Employees have been fired and/or reprimanded for spending too much time surfing. It is all monitored...

There are so many free email companies you can choose from choose a company that is less known and you will have a better chance. There is a chance that someone will find out and add the site to banned sites.

One more thing is subscribe to POP3 that don't work on standard pop3 ports (25/110). This cost about 2$-4$ a month but less likely to get banned and you will have the email for long time.

Third solution is use your mobile phone. Now there are quite a good number of phones with keyboard. This way the no one will ever find out anything.

Point of caution though, if your company don't want you to use external email, finding working email site is not solution. The major problem is when the administration finds out. Find more about the penalties involved and if you can live with them.
Last but not least, if you feel so strongly against it find a different job.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I AM Big Brother at my company. I control our firewall.
We use web site blocking software containing millions of unauthorized websites, including proxies. This database is updated daily.

We do not block access to Yahoo mail at this time, but I understand exactly how it works.

All attempts to access an unauthorized sites are logged. The logs include the sites where access was denied, why it was denied, date, time and TCP/IP address of the computer. It would not be very difficult to tell who was using the computer as this is also logged. These log entries can easily be included in a report.

Attempting this access could be in violation of your companies acceptable use policy. The reports could be used against you.

If your company has a problem with you using external email, I suggest you honor their policy. It's not worth losing your job. Save Yahoo email for when you are at home.

Again, I'm sorry yo be the bearer of bad news.

If it is the messenger that you want to access then you might want to try www.meebo.com
google talk is available alongsidethe google mail so if the firewall allows google mail then it can't stop google talk

as for ninjaproxy.com, this site is blocked by most of the corporate firewall systems

Well If you ask your sys security administrator or net admin I am sure they will be glad to definitively express to you in clear and concise term(s) their thinking on the matter. If I caught you trying to breach my network security system well lets say unemployed would be an issue for you I am sure the fed prison has a great laundry room you would be working in until oh say the year 2027 or so? Psst? do you work for me?.... NEVER KNOW HUH~ HACKING IS A CRIME
REGARDLESS OF INTENT OF USE!
* know whats really funny? if u are on their system right now? they have access to every key stoke you take INCLUDING THIS POSTING... that's why its called NETWORK SECURITY... DUHHHH

Don't know! What is your purpose? I can't really tell you that because there are many hardware and software e-mail firewalls out there that have differetn strengths and weaknesses. What does your work use to filter?

Sorry
