I'm writing some new tracks for my next album and want to write a real stonker that sticks in peoples heads and means a lot to them.

What should it be about and what elements should it contain? Singalong qualities? What emotions should it envoke? Funny? Sad? What would you like it to relate to?

What will make it stand the test of time, make people play it and play it and come back to it in yeras to come?

Thanks in advance!

each song should flow well together and into each other.
its important to have strategically placed breaks in the songs so you don't lose your audiences attention cause if you do they may never listen to your album again.
for instance, lets say you write a song about someone breaking your heart and leaving you for dead(not literally),somewhere in the middle closer to the end, suddenly completely change the beats and tempo for a brief moment, then have that new beat slowly go back to the old beat, but now with more of an edge or umph to it and faster, and the lyrics should now be about getting the person who hurt you back by doing something to them that makes you the winner in the end.
we all secretly harbor feelings of getting even with those who hurt us so if you sing about doing what we all wish we could do then we can all relate thus giving you a hit song and possibly a hit album.
but first you got to get our attention so that's what the break in the song is for.

or write a song about sex and make sure the beats are as sweaty as possible,

Write it from your heart. Something that YOU can relate to that is a universal feeling. I like things with a beat and things with emotion (soft feelings--not the "tear jerker" mess). "Song For A Winter's Night" by Sarah McLaughlan has some of the prettiest lyrics I've ever heard, while "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer ("ON The Radio: Greatest Hits Vol. 1") has one of the neatest beats.

For me, it's all about the beat. If it captivates my eardrums and makes my heart beat a bit faster, then it's all good. Tracks like:
"Love don't let me go" by David Guetta ft. Egg
"Nobody's supposed to be here" by Deborah Cox
[Hector Hex Club Remix]
"Up in here" by DMX
"Get Together" by Madonna
"Number One Spot" by Ludacris
"Hit The Freeway" by Toni Braxton
"Get Low" by Lil' Jon and the East Side Boyz
"Wait" (the whisper song) by The Yin Yan Twins
are forever on my iPod playlist .... always puts me in a good mood =]

So, it's all about the production for me.

You need a good hook to pull people in and a solid beat 9whether fast or slow). here's the harest part: you need to connect with the audience and there is no constant formula for that
