In laymen term, everything in the universe and in our everyday life involves mathematics.

Buying groceries involves weights & measures...then comes the calculation of value/price one has to pay for the purchase.

To package food or any product involves mathematics in calculating volume & weights to determine the density of the item the container has to hold to arrive at the amount of raw materials required to produce the container, to arrive at the cost and value of the end product itself.

This example is not even considered a drop in the ocean as the involvement of mathematics in life is so vast & wide that the list of examples would be endless .................the imagination of the mind may not even be able to exhaust the infinite list of examples where mathematics is involved.

Without math you wouldn't even be able to count to 2. Twin babies, a team of horses, a pair of socks, a brace of ducks, a yoke of oxen are terms left over from when people could not count to two, i.e., they did not realize these pairs had twoness in common. Toss a number of match sticks or tooth picks on the table and determine how many there are. You will find that you have to count by 1s, 2s, or 3s, and that's mathmatics. And you mathmaticians with your plus and minus infinites will find that you also can not comprehend 7 matchsticks without counting by 1s, 2s, or 3s, i.e., you can not look and perceive there are 7 without breaking them down into 2s and 3s, plus 1.

Compound interest - comes from math (think about Leonhard Euler's student Bernoulli who came up with the number e when he thought about how much he would end up owing a loan shark). Heard the story from my instructor last week.
