In my add and remove programs i keep seeing python 2.2.1 I'm trying to get rid of junk that i don't need. Is this something of importance? Will it hurt if i get rid of it. I have an hp, windows xp and Norton antivirus if that helps any? Do I need this extra safety? IT was put on the computer 4 years ago when we bought it and i don't even remeber who put it on there or why!?! Please help.......Jody_c

Python
Python is a remarkably powerful dynamic programming language that is used in a wide variety of application domains. Python is often compared to Tcl, Perl, Ruby, Scheme or Java. Some of its key distinguishing features include:

very clear, readable syntax
strong introspection capabilities
intuitive object orientation
natural expression of procedural code
full modularity, supporting hierarchical packages
exception-based error handling
very high level dynamic data types
extensive standard libraries and third party modules for virtually every task
extensions and modules easily written in C, C++ (or Java for Jython, or .NET languages for IronPython)
embeddable within applications as a scripting interface

All the best.

If you are into any of this, then keep it, if not, then delete it. It is only small, so it won't hurt to keep it, but if you don't want it, no, it won't ruin your PC

Python is a scripting language. It is the "glue" for certain programs that ties together software that normally wouldn't work in concert. Current version is 2.4.3 and it is the workhorse for Linux. If you run Linux, no, you need it. Win, I don't know. If you try to delete from Linux it will let you know it needs Python.
