Im thinking of joining a singing competition.
What kind of song should i sing for the auditions?
could somebody give me a list of safe songs i could sing?
it could be jazz or pop or anything. Thanks!

I don't know what you are auditioning for or what your voice part is or how your voice sounds, so I can't answer the what to sing question.
Regarding singing from your stomach (diaphram), lay down on your back with your arms above your head. Stretch them up as far as you can and at the same time curl your butt under and stretch your lower back downwards as far as you can. You should feel a good stretch all the way down your back. Now breathe down into this stretch, letting your stomach and lower back expand out. Do not allow your shoulders to raise up (otherwise you are using shallow costal breathing). Now stand up and try to breathe the same way. That's the beginning!

Sing what you know you can sing, don't sing anything you have ever had any trouble with. Any flaws will be heard in music. Sing into a recorder and play it back to yourself--thats what everyone else is going to hear. Are you happy with it?? then sing it. If not, stay far away from it......

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS GET A BUNCH OF YOUR CD'S AND JUST PLAY THEM AND SING ALONG THEN WHEN YOU THINK THAT YOU SOUND GOOD ON THAT ONE. CUT IT OFF AND TRY AND SING IT WITH OUT THE CD. OR SING A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT SONGS TO YOUR FRINDS AND FAMILY AND ASK THEM WHICH SOUNDS BETTER

first off make sure that you can actually sing or have you never seen American Idol, the worst thing that you can do would be to get into this competition and then find out that you suck, practice practice practice.
