...but why would any adopted kid think about calling a male parent by a feminine pronoun?

Happened to a friend (a woman) of mine, her parents died early and their best friends, a gay (men) couple raised her. She calls both Uncle and adds their respective name... (and she has not turned out gay herself...). Both are MEN, so how can you call one MOM? Really, such black&white thinking that one necessarily must be the top, the other the bottem, one goes to work, the other does all the chores at home... that's passé!

I doubt it, calling one of the parents mom would be innaccurate as neither of them is a mother, they are both fathers. They would have to decide on what they would like to be called, and what the child would feel okay calling them.

Furthermore, gay and lesbian couples don't "mimic" straight couples with a male and female role, they are actually far more equal partners and share their responibilites far more equally than hetrosexual couples.

I was not adopted. My mother is gay. I call her 'Mom" and her partner by her given name. I do, however, give Paula a Father's Day Card each year.

you could call them both dad
you could call them by their names
you could call them by their nicknames

i don't think it really matters...what matters is that the child is loved by both parents, happy and healthy!
