I’m English, I hear all about NI in the news, but need some things explained to me.Cheers
1. Do some NI’ers really think the are British? - Is it an allegiance to England or the British Crown, or some other random thing?
2. Who the hell are the people dressed in Orange? – Are they Dutch or something? – And what is every ones beef with them? Does their march cause traffic problems or something? Why do they march?
3. If NI is a strain on the UK economy, why not give it back to Ireland, it is their land right?
4. If you’re both Christians, what’s every ones beef with religion, would Jesus approve?
5. How come India managed to get their freedom peacefully (sort of, well they were peaceful anyways), why couldn’t NI?

OK, I don't know what the feck Its all about and I'm from N.I
Here go's....... king William is called William of orange because he is from Holland. He fought a battle on the banks of the river Boyne, and won. This happened on the 12th of July in 1690.
That is why they march on that date......
Why are we confused........
Protestant people celebrate the 12th......
King William was a catholic........
They want to march nowhere near were the battle was fought, that's why people complain about it.......
N.I is a strain on nobody it is a very wealthy place. We are how ever part of the UK.......Alot of catholics prefer this...although we all ,and I mean all, like to think N.I is its own country...........
To much religion and not enough Christianity...
I'm still confused, What about you???????

I can answer some of those questions.
1. England thinks that they own Northern Ireland, and always have. If you were part of a country that is "owned" by a larger country, don't you think that you would be part of that country?
4. England has the Church of England, and Ireland has Catholics and Protestants. That is also the reason for the orange (not sure if it's the catholics or protestants). Anyway, when Henry the 8th was in power, he wanted to Divorce his wife, and when the Catholic Church said No, you can't, he made up his "own" religion, The Church of England, that believes what they want as far as Catholics are concerned, and then disregard what they don't like...sort of a pick and choose religion.
5. India is not "land locked" with England, as NI is.

The following is just my ill-informed thoughts as I see it. Please do not take offence at any of the views mentioned!!
1. To be British means you were born in Britain or have taken British citizenship. People accept those of Indian or Jamaican origin as British, being born in ANYWHERE in Ireland does not exclude you. Many Irish citizens live and work in UK and have dual nationality. There are also many British catholics throughout the UK.
2.The Orange order was set up to keep the Protestant faith in Ireland. Throughout the Irish republic there are many Protestant churches. The orange order sees marching as their 'right' to walk the Queen's highway- this is seen as contentious to others, they feel it places their rights above their fellow citizens.
3. The UK still has a mandate to govern the province through elections, so the UK has no choice on paying for administration.
4. Like ALL religions there are splits or scisms between the MANY christian churches. The problem stems from when church and state cannot be separated.
5. This last one is up to ALL the peoples of Northern Ireland to sort out.
Peace and love to all!

Yes, some northern irish people think they are british. Four hundred years ago english lords were put in place to rule over the irish. interestingly northern irish protestants tend to stay in northern ireland because although they are legally british, everywhere else on the planet they are treated as irish.
the dudes dressed in orange are allieged to william of orange who was dutch sent ironically by the catholic church to force the irish into roman catholicsim. they are a protestant organisation. they cause problems with marches because they march through catholic areas waving english flags and so on. irish bands on st patricks day for example are not allowed to march through protestant areas.
the uk cannot just give ireland back to ireland as so many people think they are british, it would cause a civil war. the best we can hope for is an independent state which is neither british or irish. unfortunately this would mean democracy, the catholics would have the same political rights as the protestants.
this has been tried before, but the government of northern ireland was 100 percent protestant (british alliegence) as was the police force. the reason the IRA reformed in the late 1960s was because catholics did not have the same rights as the protestants.
Well jesus was a radical so he might side with the catholics. but i think ALL religion should be banned, look how much conflict it has caused globally.
I have no idea how india managed it, perhaps because england controlled india and simply had to pull out and leave them to it. but they would have left people in n irelandwho still considered themselves british even though they were born on the island of ireland

The Unionist population see themselves as British
They like to think they are descent from William of Orange, the protestant king who defeated the Catholics.
Their march causes offence because they insist on some marches through catholic areas. Their reason being, they have done it for years.
The Unionists have votes in the British parliament, so could sway a government. The catholic members refuse to sit in
London.
as a note, land locked means a country with no coast, like Switzerland. The UK or Ireland are not land locked countries.. I presume he meant having a land border
Jesus would not approve, didn't he say, do unto others as you would do unto yourself.
India didn't have unionist politicians in the house of commons

I might be wrong here but when Britain left India there was a blood bath between Muslim & Hindu etc.. (about 1million killed) hence the Brits had to go back & split the land into what is now India & Pakistan....
Also it's the Brits who are Protestants as we are not Catholic (Henry the VIII etc..) & therefore 'protest' against Catholicism even thought we are one of the least religious societies on the planet (with the exception of NI)

Speedball me thinks your taking the piss! Why not ask how Scotland played a major role in dividing this country....No leave all the Celtic races alone and blame the English again why not?
Mind you if you want to blame someone then why not that French King Henry 1st he started all this and his Son John took up the reins where he left off.
But that is all in the past and you know what happens when you dwell too much on the past....more anger and hatred.
No the only way to appease all those hundreds and thousands of men, women and children on all sides who have died on these shores is to learn to embrace each other and try to live in harmony as one nation. Forget Orangemen etc., and let people chose what religion they wish to follow....indeed if any these days.
Not answered your question as you would like but it sickens me to see how people like you who pretend they do not know about the history of these great people, try and goat others into saying bad things about each other.
Go forth and mulitply
Hi Mr Welshman received your email and tried to reply but was returned undelivered. Cheers for the correspondence enjoyed it. Keep up with the reserach in the city of FUNK!

Jessica isn't Wesh even with the reality that. I too imagine of Katie as a nick call. So became Jack at one aspect and so is Charlie. i guess they prefer the nick names type of names there. - Favorites are for boys Jack, James, Dylan, Thomas, for females i love Eva, Hannah and beauty. those are the in problem-free words names i'd truthfully supply my little ones if I had to. - Least favorites Ryan, Daniel and Conor. Charlie too fullyyt that to me that's an abbreviation for Charles.

1) only 40 percent of the population think they are british (guess which side i belong to?)
2) the orangemen are devotees of king william the 3rd, a dutch prince who put together a private army to overthrow the rightful irish and catholic landowners in 1690 in drogheda (by the way he was never there)
3) it will never be given back by concensus because protestants are too stupid to comprehend democracy.
4) we are not christians they are non believers, we are catholics, big distinction there. we are loyal to the one true faith of rome.
5) the occupied 6 counties in the north of ireland will only ever get freedom whem britain fuc'ks off and the prods take "o'hara" as a second name.
