From Wikipedia:
AstroTurf was invented in 1965 by employees of Monsanto, patented in 1967, and originally sold under the name "Chemgrass". It was renamed AstroTurf after its first well-publicized use at the Houston Astrodome stadium. Monsanto later sold the AstroTurf brand to Southwest Recreational Industries (SRI), who held the rights until filing for bankruptcy in 2004. The development of the turf is now property of Dalton, Georgia based Textile Management Associates, Inc. It is sold by GeneralSports Venue, LLC.

Yes, they tried at first to grow grass inside the AstroDome, and also, the heat from the sunlight was too intense. So... they painted reflective on the glass and put in the carpet. And, the baseball team was originally to be called the Astronauts and the building the AstronautDome, but the inventer of that name was afraid Americans would shorten it to Astros. As it is, we called the ended up calling the team "the Stors".

No, it was named for the Astrodome, which first used the turf. The Astros changed their name when they moved into the stadium. They were originally the Colt 45's.

No. The Astros are a professional important League group. extreme college teenagers would not be able to hit ninety+ with wood bats, they might not be stable sufficient to generate the mandatory bat velocity. The Astros might beat any HS group. undeniable and straightforward.
