i have 2 rats each with a litter but they wont come out now and wont let me handle them. what can i do and is this normal?
i got told to handle them just as much now as i did before.

Yes whomever told you to handle them now as much as possable was right. and you should have your ratties housed seperatley because the females cannot be housed together when they have young for the females will fight over the young and try to steal them off each other. Also the young will be a little skittish at first but after a while of handling they will come around. And if they are farely new babies the mother will be busy nursing for awhile till the babies start movin around more.

The mothers are being careful because they have young. Offer a special tasty food by hand several times a day, cat meat is usually a favourite. Handle the mothers to get your scent on, the babies will smell that and accept you more easily when they leave the nest.

try hand feeding them with bread they need some more incouragement to get them to come out more.good luck.

.this is normal status.don't be afraid.my friend is veterinary.she is said : "this is normal status.maybe rats feel hungry"
