within your computer, all plugs and power adapter are ' special shaped ' or keyed ' to only fit in 1 way.
this does not mean that you can not ' hook up ' " the wrong thing in the wrong place ".
You can obviously connect your HDD (s) incorrectly, by having the ' Jumper Pin ' set incorrectly or having the HDD attached to the IDE at the wrong plug.
Saying all of this, Most of your computer is ' Basically Idiot Proof ', as far as the component wiring goes.
However, if you are ' Installing ' a new Motherboard or New Case ', you should follow the ' Installations Instructions ' real close, or you may not get the ' Small Connectors and Jumpers ' properly set.
If you connect your Master HDD in the Slave position, normally your computer will not ' Find ' the O/S, as it will be ' loaded ' on the ' Master HDD ' and it will not be ' Searched ' during Start-up.
hope this helped.

The butterfly result's a term used in chaos concept to describe how small differences to a likely unrelated element or venture (additionally nicely-called an preliminary venture) can impression great, complicated structures. The term comes from the advice that the flapping of a butterfly's wings in South usa of america would desire to impression the climate in Texas, because of the fact of this the tiniest impact on one area of a gadget could have a extensive result on yet another area. Taken extra widely, the butterfly result's a manner of describing how, except all aspects would nicely be accounted for, great structures like the climate stay impossible to predict with complete accuracy because of the fact there are too many unknown variables to hint.

I am not really clear as to what you are asking but, If you are wanting to know what plugging in a HDD backwards well? dude .05 volts in a 5.0 volt socket won`t hurt anything~
However a 5.0 volt shot to a .5 volt device well lol fry baby fry as that's 100 times the voltage specs! try this site below for a new one at a much reduced cost over retail and psst look at the pin configurations there is a single pin missing from the hdd socket as well as the plug at the end of the connecting strap, Odd huh almost like they did that for a REASON? hmm.,... * theres a 320 gig hitachi hdd for $69.00 there as well as 100s of others avail . enjoy n rem check the sockets carefully next time~

Hi. Both the power connector and the data cable will only go in to the hard drive one way.

It wont function in case you are mentioning power supply to the hard drive. In case of data cable, again same.So be careful while connecting. And secondly your problem is not at all clear or coherent from the way you've written.Dont take it otherwise,no offence meant. But remember others can help you if you are clear in your writing.

If you connect the power cords incorrectly, (Putting negative to positive, and postive to negative) then yes it can affect your hard drive in a bad way. I would refer to your manual for your hard drive for correct installation.
