Critical thinking is how I view what I read - good or bad. It helps me tremendously in what I write. When I read a book, I ask myself what is good or bad about the book and how it affects me as a reader. For instance, I love Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon books. Gabriel Allon is an Israeli assasin, and yet he is a very sympathetic and in fact downright sexy character. And I asked myself why I felt that way about a man who kills for a living. When I analyzed the character I realized how Mr. Silva made that possible with the way he developed Gabriel and the different charactistics he gave him. That helped me tremendously in how to make a character in my current book more endearing to readers. I learn as much if not more from books I hate. From them, I analyze what it was about them I hated and avoid making the same mistakes. That's why in addition to my daily writing and research time, I also allot myself a daily reading time. I'm a fast reader and read a book a day or at least one every other day. I also never pass a shelf of paperbacks in a grocery store or anyplace else without noting which books are there and also reading the Times Best Seller list on Sunday to monitor what books are hot -- All part of my job as a writer. Okay I answered your first question and now you're just trying to get someone else to do your homework for you. For your answer just think about whats different between when you read for fun and when you read for school. You have to look at the text a lot closer right? What do you look for? How would you read a text differently when you're reading say a thick classic novel from when you're reading a modern novel that you know you won't be tested on?
