An aide to Dem Senator Webb of Virginia got caught taking a gun into the Senate . Not only is that highly illegal, handguns are illegal in the entire DC area . He'll be arraigned this morning and bond will be set . Webb has already offered the excuse that the aide(a long-time friend) forgot it was in his bag , but he would've had to forget for a long time, seeing as how he entered and traversed the entire district with it .

What's your opinions on the subject ?

I don't like Webb, but that being said, I don't think there was anything sinister here--I know of a similar incident with an off duty police officer (friend of mine). But you can bet I will be watching any gun control votes coming from Webb in the future...........LOL!

(But geez--I find it interesting that he had the gun for such a short period of time and it slipped his mind.........I find that plausible.....how then do the Libs not find it believable that Scooter Libby couldn't recall every single detail of a conversation which took place weeks/months before his trial????)

(Yes... that sound you hear is not air escaping a tire... it's me... and my long... deep... frustrated sigh...)

We have a "Permit to Carry" law in Texas that allows any registered individual to carry a concealed firearm.

**Welcome to the Wild Wild West.**

My father is a life long member of the NRA. There are several guns in their home.

My father never travels without a weapon for protection...
And he NEVER forgets he has it.

Part of owning and maintaining something that can both defend your life - and take away others, is RESPONSIBILITY.
One element of responsibility is taking it upon yourself to remain informed about the constraints that are levied along side your privileges.

This gentleman was cognisant enough of his possession to make the choice to store it on his person. It was his responsibility to know of any and all restrictions involving a firearm, and to act according to the law. ESPECIALLY in the cradle of our Nation's law makers!

Lawdy! Does this gent not remember the schizophrenic man who shot up the Capitol a couple of years back? The restrictions became far more strident afterward!

We are all familiar with the laws regaurding speed limits...
Many break the law with little reguard to the risk.
Many get away with it...
When caught, you know the consequences... you get a ticket.
If you cause an accident while breaking the law - stiffer penalties apply.
If you cause a death as the result of breaking the law - the penalty is prison.

If yet another crazed, deluded person had gained access to that firearm before the Capitol Police...?
(Shudder)

This gentleman is responsible for the choices he made. He should own up to the consequences.
Peace dear ones.

I seriously doubt that there was malice intended so a fine or some community service should be in order for this. The thing that kills me is that, had it been an aide to a republican Senator instead of this incredibly rude pornographer turned lawmaker, there would be a huge hue and cry from the left and they'd demand no less than the Senator's resignation.

My mother and father are both armed to the teeth. I'm not kidding, they have a gun in their car, under their pillow and my mother carries one in her purse. My father has converted the spare bedroom in our home into a room where he can make his ammunition. They have the equipment and everything. That being said they are both democrats and even though they are old would find it very hard to forget they had a gun on their person. How do you forget something like that? I don't think Webb had any intention of shooting anyone but if you forget that your are carrying a fire arm you are probably not qualified to carry one.

The gun laws of DC are now headed to the Supreme Court. According to an appellate court rulling only police and retired police are allowed to possess guns in DC.

The arrest of this aide only points out the stupidity of the current laws. With all the current gun laws, DC is the murder capital as well as the nations.

I believe the aide is an ex-marine. I can imagine that he simply forgot that it was in his bag. I believe the gun was registered and he has a carry permit.

Honest, law-abiding people forget they have guns on them (in their bags/luggage) all the time. This occurs everyday at airports, courthouses, etc.....sometimes people just grab the wrong bag or forget that they left the gun in it. Can be as simple as getting distracted by an argument as you leave the house.

No big deal.

I imagine people will play politics with the whole thing though. This is America after all.

only because he's a Dem does no longer mean he's a large Obama-supporter -this guy has some common experience, he's also a lot extra conservative than your universal Dem.. so in my e book it truly is a plus..solid for him!

Personally I don't think he should have brought it into the building but the law is wak. He did violate the law but it is about to be repealed anyway. Let him pay a fine and be done with it.

This of course would be a major scandal if he were a republican and it is a true violation of the law but I don't think there was was any intent in it.

Individual freedom is the dream of our age. It's what our leaders promise to give us, it defines how we think of ourselves and, repeatedly, we have gone to war to impose freedom around the world. But if you step back and look at what freedom actually means for us today, it's a strange and limited kind of freedom.

Politicians promised to liberate us from the old dead hand of bureaucracy, but they have created an evermore controlling system of social management, driven by targets and numbers. Governments committed to freedom of choice have presided over a rise in inequality and a dramatic collapse in social mobility. And abroad, in Iraq and Afghanistan, the attempt to enforce freedom has led to bloody mayhem and the rise of an authoritarian anti-democratic Islamism. This, in turn, has helped inspire terrorist attacks in Britain. In response, the Government has dismantled long-standing laws designed to protect our freedom.

I comes from living in such a gun-loving culture that people don't think so little of guns that they are unaware they are carrying them. But, if he violated the law, he should be punished.
