I just cleaned my processor fan ang heat sink as it was clogged with dust. After i put everything back together the processor fan is coming on every 10-20 minutes or more if the computer is used. It is even coming on during the start up process. This did not happen before cleaning. Is there any chance that i will need to replace the termal paste or have i done something else wrong?

Sounds fine to me - I would suggest re-applying the thermal paste, remember to apply just a thin layer though - arctic sliver should do the trick.

Hi,you could replace the thermal paste,it would not do any harm. You have done your computer CPU fan a world of good by cleaning it and what is happening now is that it`s doing it`s job.The CPU gets very hot and needs a heat sink to cool it down, which in turn needs a small fan to help cool both. Also, your computer air vents need to be clean so that the CPU fan can draw air.

Sounds like normal operation of a CPU fan. Most computers have a temperature controler for your CPU fan to save energey and sound levels. Computer fans are always turning but when the proccessor becomes warmer than a set threshold the fan will speed up to give extra cooling. It also will spin at full speed on start up to test to make sure the fan is operatin properly.

All the dirt and grime on your fan may have caused it from properly working before you cleaned it. It is just turning on now to cool the computer down. You actually did your computer a huge favor by cleaning that fan. Nothing to worry about...

Processor fans are supposed to turn all the time its normal. I guess the dust was keeping it from turning before.
