I am 38.5 weeks pregnant and have been feeling what I think are braxton hicks for a week now. It's like gas pains in my back or strong period cramps in my abdomen. The pains can be constant some times, but irregular at others, sometimes going away for an entire day.
Today I woke up feeling very tired, sick, nauseated, and more cramping. No mucus plug yet. Are these signs that I could be going into labor soon? Or is it impossible to tell?
I feel like there's no way I will last until my due date, but I've been reading other people's answers/questions on here and it seems like I could definitely go a few more weeks.
My next appt is in 4 days, and I haven't been checked yet to see how much I'm dilated, if anything.

Honestly, based on my experience it is impossible to tell. not only is every one different but each and every pregnancy is different. (i would be concerened that they have not checked you yet, that is something they do starting at 36 weeks). I have been expereincing you same exact syptoms some days are worse than others. Contrractions are just your bodies way of getting ready-i personally have been having them since 28 weeks everyday (lasting for hours coming 8-14 minutes apart, but have been as close as 3/4 minutes). I have been losing my muscous plug for weeks now-I did not notice it with my first, and a lot of peoples don't even know, or it comes out right before labor. I have been feeling incredibly sore and miserable and have been dialted to 3 for over two weeks now. with my first i was dialted to 1 for only two weeks, and delivered at 37 weeks. i am currently 36 weeks with baby number 2-so even though i have been through it before, and have been dialted this far- i have no way of knowing.
when my sister had her baby she thought for over a month (even her dr said that) she would not make to 40 weeks-she ended up going to 41 weeks and being induced.
so good luck.

Man, I feel for you! It seems like the last month just drags on and on. I don't know how much I can help you though. I didn't really experience Braxton Hicks. But I did lose my plug (not all women do though) and two days later went into labor. The day I went into labor, I cleaned my entire house from top to bottom and just couldn't stop. I felt like I had to clean and organize EVERYTHING. If you have started cramping, time the cramps, (they could be contractions) and if they have some sort of pattern (ei..every 12 min, 7 min, so on) you very well could be in labor. Good luck and fear not, you will have this baby soon!

With my first pregnancy I had pre-term labor at 34 weeks 5 days that was stopped and had contractions until I was induced at 40 weeks 3 days and delivered 40 weeks 5 days. You could go a few more weeks but that depends on whether you're dilating or effacing. Best of luck.

Since it is your first baby it's always hard to say. The whole mucus plug thing is way over blown. I have had 3 kids (on #4 now) and have never lost my mucus plug...or if I did I had no idea. If your contractions are getting more painful or closer together then it never hurts to call the doctor and get checked out. Honestly though you probablly still have some time.

Sometimes contractions are irregular even when you are in labor, mine stopped for 5 minutes when i was fully dilated, and ready to push. My mother in law thought she had the flu when she was in labor because she just kept throwing up, so it is possible that you are in labor. I would go to the doctor sooner than 4 days just in case, unless you want the possiblity of having this child at home. Labor can be tricky sometimes, good luck!

I feel ya girl!!! I am soooo tired of being pregnant. I will be 38 weeks tomorrow. I am going nuts, I can't sleep, heartburn is killing me, back is killing me, If I don't have to run to the bathroom in the next few minutes I'll be doing alright LOL!!! but it's the " joys " of pregnancy. This is my third. But regardless of when you go, you are almost there anyhow. Do you have everything ready for baby? if not, get all baby's clothes washed folded and organized by size, get nursery organized and if you havn't yet, write a letter to your little one. I did with my two and just finished one to this one yesterday. I know it's tough, your mind is racing, and you just want to get it over with (me too). but we don't have much longer, almost there!!! this may sound rude, but it helps me knowing that theres other people on here that have a lot longer to go than we do!!!!! Congrats and best wishes to you and baby!!!!
