I think it varies from 3 hours a week for 13 year olds, up to 10 hours a week for those who are 16 but still at school. Also there are restrictions on how long each day you are allowed to work - ie half an hour on school days.

You have to apply to be able to work on a hard ship. Than you are allowed to work up to 30 hours a week no longer than 6 hours a day and are required to get a 30 minute break.

At least this used to be the law. Not sure if still is.
