you are right... today's mankind is a civilised society... before being individuals we are social animals... hence civic decency and social commitments are foremost responsibilities for us...
there is no question of generations... we all are collectively expected to have high moral values...

What are morals but a way of conducting ourselves in pleasant way so that we do not offend others and this way we can co-exist. Without some code of conduct that is accepted by the majority we would soon fall apart into anarchy, so morals are an essential part of the current and future way of life, however as the world changes so will our values and this is why in every generation adults are less tolerant of teenagers because the new moral standards are evolving all the time with each changing generation.
Morals are like unwritten laws, it would be pointless to lock everyone up for every little misdemeanor and therefore a code of life has evolved called moral values.

I commend you on being young and having good morals. .. Morals to me are very important but lack very much in todays society wether you be young or not.
Having good morals and high standards is great in my opinion. Helps you build a better life, helps you become stronger as a person. Helps you build good and lasting relationships with friends and family, but can tear them apart just as easily..
I've lost touch with so called friends and family members before for not agreeing with the things they do. Such as cheating on their spouses, doing drugs, just making poor decisions one after the other and not learning from those experiences..... They expect me to sit back and think it is ok. But, its not somthing I would do, so therefore wouldn't support the fact that they have done it either. You try to give good advice, and they get angry because they expect you to think the same as them. I was better off without those kind of people in my life.
I'd rather surround myself with good people who make good role models to others..
I think it is important to treat your elders with respect,
but if that elder is a bad role model and doesn't show good morals him/herself, then how can you really respect that.
To this day I still do not like or respect my grandmother, and nothing will change that. I still behave civil around her, but it doesn't mean that I have to respect her or love her as an individual.
Many families force there kids into "loving" a relative for the sake of them being family.. I think its ridiculous. I had to spend over half of my life pretending to care about a family that I was married into. They were physicall abusive, drug users and alcoholics. Why would anyone in their right mind force a child to be in that situation? Well, it happens all the time.
Thats why I stick to my guns (so to speak) as an adult. I'd be lost without my morals. I definatley don't want to raise my children the way that i was raised. Its up to parents to teach good morals and values to their children.. Maybe if more people did that we would be living in a more violent free time.

For me, having morals is living in a way that is in harmony with your principals. Lots of people talk about what's right and what's wrong yet don't live their lives in a way that demonstrates their feelings - for example they won't be assertive in standing up for what they believe in, or for what is right - they choose instead the easy way out, which sometimes means presuming someone else will help, or someone else will do what needs to be done. In my opinion a person with morals does what they can when they can to promote goodness and respect in their world, by actions and not just words. Does that make sense??

You do ask a very interesting question, Vishwa, but is one not easily answered in so few words.
In essence, morality is simply what is derived as of the majority of people and generalized in such manner so as all people can get along together and function together with less conflict and confusion. This is often referred to as "the moral majority" and often "the status quo" .
It seems most of the issues dealing with morality these days lurks around sexual and rebellious situations. I assure you that this goes beyond teen age years, so let's not think teens are the problem here.
Because there must be limits to sexual and rebellious situations that can be tolerable, we must protect those limits by creating laws to preserve the integrity of morality and punish those that refuse to accept the bounds established by a society.
Morality then, is the footnote for an acceptable relationship amongst people. When people accept the moral code they develope a place for themselves in the world community and are able to survive to their endeavors for a career in the workplace, circles of friendship, family and marriage.
Obviously then, in order to survive in this crazy mixed up world, morality is a necessary facet for success and survival as it simply comes down to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"...the "golden rule"/

This is a personal opinion, morals are the standards that are right that a person lives by.It could be like a set of rules or core values that a person uses as a yard stick for living correctly i;e when you believe that no matter where you are ,you would make a difference positively regardless of how small your input might be.Now that is a standard you set for yourself. The list goes on and on......

Morals are respect..if you treat anybody disrespectfully...I assume you want to be treated with disrespect also.
Passing on your valuable traits that people like, taking care of yourself and family and treating others with kindness are the way I want my kids to behave so that's how I try to live!
