I am looking into hypnotherapy for my friend to help with depression
has anyone had experiences with this , specifically depression ?

Hypnotherapy makes more sense for behavioural changes, such as quitting smoking etc.

For depression, get your friend to eat healthy and exercise 1/2 hour per day, the exercise is proven to be as effective as an antidepressant.

If you live in the higher parts of north America(northern USA and Canada), your friend could have Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. This comes about from not enough sunlight, which screws with the body's cycles. The answer to this is to spend time outside in the mornings getting sun when possible. Or you can get a light for it. It's a fairly common condition that happens at wintertime and goes away in summertime with the added sun. I'll put a link below.
