It's not recommend to leave them in the car seat that long...but do what's best for you. There have been lots of times I've taken the baby out and got home and she is sleeping soundly in the the car seat, so it gave me a chance to put the groceries away and all. But I always got her out after that. A lot of people out here may not agree with it, but you do what's best in your situation. Take care.

I don't think it's physically harmful to them, since it's a natural way to have their body, and I'm sure it's comfy. But once you DO try to have the baby finally sleep in his/her crib, it'll be twice as hard as if you did it when they were just little babies and really didn't know any better and were easier to "mold". I say the crib is best for sleeping through the night. Not the car seat. They usually sleep through the night by 3-4 months anyway. I don't think that's such a huge time to wait! When they get bigger, you miss getting up in the middle of the night with them. At least I did and do now.

A lot of babies sleep best in their carseat because of the position it puts them in. But one of my cousins had a baby who would only sleep in his carseat, and over time his head started to develop a very flat spot on it where it rested on the seat - you know how soft their heads are. The doctor made her stop letting him sleep there for that reason. So if you do it, just keep an eye out for things like that.
And some kids don't sleep throught the night until they are 2 or 3, if ever.

It's perfectly ok. When my son was born we tried to let him sleep in the crib, but that only lasted 2 hours. Then we moved him into his bouncer and he slept til 4 AM to eat. So that was really good. It cradles them and makes them feel secure. You have to think they just came out of the womb. A warm cozy place that cradled them all the time. Try what works best for your child. The car seat might work for you maybe not. Just make sure you try the car seat, the swing and the bouncer to see what the child prefers.

I think it will be fine. The baby likes it because of the confining nature, it reminds the baby of the womb. Also, my daughter was very congested as a baby, and sleeping in the carseat helped her breathe better. And with all the warnings about cribs, bumper pads, blankets and stuffed animals, you may have hit on the safest way for a baby to sleep.

It is fine for babies to sleep in carseats as long as they are the right carseat for their weight and age. I wouldnt suggest putting a newborn in a sit up carseat. All 3 of my children slept in their carseats very often and their doctors also recommended it because I wouldnt have to worry about them turning over on their sides on stomachs since babies are supposed to sleep on their backs all the time.

I do not think it will hurt the baby to sleep in her car seat. My kids slept wherever they fell asleep. I dare not move them, or they woke up and were cranky. I would make sure they were secure, not able to fall out. Babies like to be "snug" and if that is where she feels best, let her feel best!
Downside. When baby outgrows the infant car seat, it may be difficult to get her to sleep in a bed, she will be used to sleeping in the car seat.

Know they are saying that a child to sleep in a car seat is not good for them. My baby sleep best in a swing.

well, for naps its fine, but getting the baby into the habit of sleeping in a car seat at night will eventually be a terrible time for the mom. getting them to sleep in a crib after they get used to the car seat is incredibly difficult!
i wouldn't recommend it...transition becomes a nightmare!
