DO YOU ACTUALLY THINK IT IS WORTH IT? Of course you will learn a few nifty facts about stuff, but is it really worth it? Would your time be better spent reading books and doing other education/fun stuff? I would have to say yes. I spend about 10 min on here each day, but I see some people that spend almost their entire afternoons and evenings!!!! I think, in my humble opinion, that this is unnecessary. If people want questions answered, they should just google them themselves. If they still dont have the answer through that, then they should ask here.

you are right it is better to study.

I post questions here sometimes, only if I think it might lead me to something I havent thought of myself. It is very usefull to get fresh ideas when i am stuck, but study of books or even googling something is more productive

I actually enjoy being here as an excuse to look into areas in which my knowledge is rusty. Every now and then I have the feeling that I have helped someone with an answer. It is also interesting to know what people's interests and preoccupations are, as I have been uprooted from my native soil for the past few years. I have not so far asked many questions because, as you say, it is reasonably easy to find out answers oneself. Perhaps I need more practice, but however carefully I word a question I find that a majority of people answering don't understand what I am asking!

I spend time on here during the work day when things get slow. It helps to pass the time away a little faster because believe me it goes in slow motion when you have run out of things to do. Once I make a load of phone calls, I pretty much wait for a response. Yahoo questions is a fun between time hobby that I can do and still look like I'm busy. It's a lot less depressing than reading the news all day (trust me, it's what I did before I discovered this).

I am new to the ask/answer questions even though I've been a member for a while now. However in my opinion I think its useful in some ways to get other idea's and opinions from actual people instead of a webpage that could be ten years old. I guess its all depends on your preferences and what you like to do really. But yeah, sometimes questions seem to go a little too far. And answers can be sometimes posted with the intent of hurting the person asking.

Guess its all how you look at it.

It's sounds as if you have a great need to feel superior to someone...even nameless, faceless entities over the Internet. I would advise counseling.

Bad: People used too much time.
Good: People like to help each other.
Bad: People use this to "play" and ask questions not needed.
Good: You can't google something like.
"I have a new friend, he/she is..........."
That won't do at Google at all.
Think 'Bout it.
