UCSB is a UC, very nice campus, social life, nicer dorms (they are actually available), but is there an actual business major that employers will hire?

Cal Poly is a poly school, more conservative ( a plus for me), good (excellent from what i have read) job placement, learn by doing..

I would be fine with going to ucsb for a year then transfering but isnt transfering into cal poly really hard?

Thanks for any info.

Cal Poly has a very good business program. UCSB isn't as known for business. However, it all depends on what you mean by a "business major". Cal Poly has the BS in Business Admin. SB has stuff like Business Economics or Econ, but not Business Admin. But yes, Cal Poly has a very good rep for being more hands on while SB is a bit more theoretical.

I'd actually go straight to Cal Poly if you think it's a better program. It'd actually wouldn't be quite as hard going from UCSB to Cal Poly, altho it's no cake walk. UCSB is actually ranked quite a bit higher than Cal Poly. So, going from UCSB to Cal Poly would be seen as a downgrade. Still, the UCs and Cal States leave the great majority of their transfer spots to people from community colleges. Usually, they have a certain number of units too before they transfer. If you try and transfer from UCSB to Cal Poly (and vice versa), you'd want to do it after 2 years and you might not even get in if your GPA isn't that great.

Cal Poly has a much better and more practical business program than UCSB. The student body SAT scores are very comparable and Cal Poly has a good reputation in the business community.

UC's place more emphasis on their graduate programs to the detriment of their undergrad students. Many classes are taught by grad students who are not always the most skilled teachers.

Not to mention that a UC costs almost $5,000 more per year to attend than Cal Poly.

Last SLO is nicer than Isla Vista.

Looks like the first two answered in regards to the business school.

I don't see the benefit of going to UCSB first, if your goal is Cal Poly. If you aren't accepted, I suggest going to a community college to build up your gpa and tranfer credits.

I also agree that SLO is better than Isla Vista. I've lived in both areas and found the Isla Vista was a little dumpy.

I've heard people complain about SLO being a little to boring for them, but I really enjoyed it.

Good Luck with College, study hard but enjoy life too.
