The answer to your question is a NO!!!!!! No person living within the last 100 years had slaves so why should we apologize for it? This discussion has been on this board before. As for reparations the answer is also a NO!!!!!!!!!!

it particularly is a robust question, relatively by using fact it exhibits some inconsistency in Christian theory. some Christians i be attentive to say that it particularly is all component of a plan. Now, the biggest premise of Christianity is that it particularly is Adam's unfastened will that messed each and everything up, which argues against a plan. i do no longer think that an suggestions-set approximately God is messing this u . s . a . up consistent with se. besides the undeniable fact that, it particularly is actual that religious human beings have a tendency to be very patriotic. So if capitalism tells you that, in result, being sturdy ability spending better than you have, and not paying taxes to maintain the country great, e.g. by way of a ideal infrastructure, sturdy faculties, etc, then it particularly is the approach of the Christian, the unquestioning willingness to circulate alongside with that which isn't clever, that has contributed to usa's downfall. yet, as many have stated, you are able to purely be right dogs for thus long. traditionally, you get stretched too skinny, and issues commence falling aside

Since slavery was abolished all kinds of laws have been passed to allow ex slaves and their decendants to grow and prosper. (albeit slowly)
Unlike the Japanese government, et al, that until recently would not even acknowledge the events.
Remember these were 100 years apart and the Japanese have done nothing but apologize. Do the Chinese and Philipino comfort women feel better?

Good grief I thought that war cleared all this up. What exactly should I, as an American, apoligize for? I've never owned a slave, neither have my parents or grandparents or great-grandparents...you get the picture? You're asking me to say sorry for something that I had absolutely no part in and no ability to control.
That's like asking someone to serve a prison sentence for a crime their great-great-great grandfather comitted. It's a little ridiculous!
The war freed the slaves. It was at that point that the right minded people in this country said, "Slavery just ain't right!"

P-field,IN - Kennedy actually DID apologize on behalf of the nation for it's past treatment of native Americans. The U.S. also apologized to Japanese Americans for putting them in concentration camps during WWII. So why can't it do the same for Blacks.
Doesn't matter if YOU personally had nothing to do with slavery, the US "did".
The reluctance to a national apology is nothing short of latent racism. What's the big deal? Hurt every bodies feelings to recall that the US did horrible things in the past? Built up the country on the backs of slaves?

Apologize for something that happened way back then?? That's freaking STUPID. NOBODY is alive who had anything to do with it. Your examples listed have ALL happened since the 30s. Will african tribes who practiced slavery(against their own) way back then apologize too? Or how about Sudan apologizing for the slavery that they practice TO THIS DAY. So get real and drop this bs form of racism.

Who are we going to apologize to and who will make the apology? Are there any true persons left alive who was a slave back during that time are there any slave owners still alive? I don't feel as though we need to apologize to the great great grand kids just because their kin.

No on in the US has been involved in slavery. There is nothing to apologize for. We fought a civil war about 140 years ago, to free slaves. Over one-half of the people who died in the war did it to free slaves. I think that is apology enough.
Raise the slave traders from the dead, and get them to apologize. But you will also have to raise the slaves from the dead as well.
This apologizing stuff is just evidence of weak-kneed, left wing liberal looniness.

How about Reparations and an apology for all the CRIMES and MURDER Blacks in the USA have caused in the past 50 years.
Go live next to a federal housing project..the tell me those people deserve an apology. Many are 4th generation welfare bums.
Intelligent blacks know that they are lucky they are here instead or Africa.

America would have to apologize to the American Indians for mass slaughtering them & stealing their land first. Slaves were implemented afterward to "build" the country.
