are house sits about 100 ft from the rd and when it rains hard or the snow melts it all comes toward the house. it get so bad sometime that it comes into the gargage and our garage is 40ft long by 24ft wide and it goes all the way to the back of the garage and then goes down the walls and into are basement. it also comes in the front of the house when it rains like that because everything is down hill. we put a drain in the garage and also have a drain in front of the garage that runs the length of it and we have it drain into a different part of the yard, but because so much comes in the drains cant handle the water and we get flooded in the basement and in the garage. we have a sump pit in the basement but its on the opposit side of where this water comes in so it never gets there. how do we keep this water from reaching the house. is there such a thing as a yard sump pit. we cant slop the yard away from the house because its the whole front yard and its huge. any suggestions

My mom and a number of neighbors had a similar problem. She called the city utilities department and they came over an put a concrete berm at the head of her driveway...kinda like a small speed bump. It now diverts the water off to an acceptable place to drain.

I don't know if your city does that too, nor do I know if they would berm the whole length of your yard, but it's worth asking. They may have some other suggestions, too.

Good luck.

You would need to find somewhere lower than your house, then divert the water to this area using ditches, trenches, or drains and pipes. If there is no area lower, you can have a retention pond dug away from your house to catch the water.

A ditch of some sort something to get the water to keep draining away from your house and not pooling in or against it.

Make a wide-rising and falling road block (like a speed-breaker) at the beginning of your drive way. Let the breaker be like a large undulating spped-breaker, so that the car can easily go over it.

More plants and trees that absorb water quickly. Just a guess. Next one would be sell it during dry season and move to higher land. Jack up your house.

What about putting a speed bumb in front of your driveway. Just a thought.
