I thank God, I don't have personal experience to relate to; but I do know that the world is mostly based on what we have. So, then it's important to have things that everyone else seems to have. This creates an attitude of anger and frustration, which most of us, if we had nothing, would also feel. When these angry people see how others with money are enjoying life, they may become violent.
It's a no brainer question....people who have money and material things appear happier, ( not necessarily so, tho) but to those who live in poverty, happiness may be these material things that they feel they cannot obtain.

Poverty itself is violent. It's violent to the dignity, desires and dreams of the person experiencing it. Poverty is unjust. Since what the person experiences is violence and injustice, they perpetuate it. Poverty is disempowering. So people try to regain power in whatever ways they can. The easiest way is through violence (physical or emotional), because humans have lots of vulnerable aspects which are easy to attack. By this argument, it's not just poverty that causes violence. Any situation where a person feels continually violated, disempowered or unjustly treated can lead to violence. So for example a man who is belittled at work could come home and take it out on his family.

Another response could be that people are naturally violent (that's what Rosseau thought). They only become less violent when they have something to lose if they are violent. For example, they could lose good jobs, nice families, nice houses, freedom, etc. When people are very poor, they have less to lose and there's less incentive not to be violent. Linked to this, there are often rich kingpins controlling crime. These people don't want to do the dirty work themselves, so they pay poorer people to do it. But it doesn't mean that the rich people are not also bad.

But this seems like a very pessimistic view of humanity, and I'm not sure that either of these capture all of it. I think that poverty is a raw, rough thing to experience, and it gives rise to raw, rough responses. So while it can lead to violence, often poor communities will also be more close-knit and family-oriented - there are more close, rough confrontations (good as well as bad) with other people.

It doesn't. If you've been watching too much T.V. and are too gullible for your own good, then you would think poverty leads to violence, but in the U.S. there is a huge invisible segment of people living in poverty that are nowhere close to being overrun with violence.

i don't have any personal experiences. However, this should not be difficult to understand. If one is poor they may steal for food, they may ingest more drugs to escape the pain of the poverty or plight of poverty. Do some research there is a great deal of information available. Also look into the "culture of poverty". Inform yourself, knowledge is a wonderful thing. God bless****

It DOESN'T. It's just an excuse used by N iggers to justify their criminal acts. If poverty caused crime there would have been a crime wave during the great depression. There WAS'NT.

desperation...

A lot of violence stems from people trying to get what they dont have....money and food.

So they rob and steal and often that is done in violent ways.

Also, a lot of poor inner city youths turn to dealing drugs which can also lead to violence.

It's a pretty simple concept -> the less someone has to lose, the more likely they are to take on risk (like gang activity, etc).

people who have little or nothing crave a better life and feel their lives are wasting away living a meagre existence, so they get angry and take it out on other people, rich or poor.
