Okay, here's the thing, this is my mom's computer I'm trying to work on, and it was working fine yesterday. However, now when I try to boot, it gets to the XP loading screen, it goes away like it's about to load the OS, and then it just cuts off and starts over, saying "Windows failed to load properly", and then gives me the options of "Safe Mode", "Safe Mode w/Networking", "Safe Mode w/Command Prompt", "Last Known Good Configuration" and "Start Windows Normally".

I've tried these all, and it can't even boot into SAFE MODE. Help?

Ironically, the only thing I can think of that I'd done to it before this happened was run a virus and spyware scan, both of which came up clean.

(SpyBot and Avast)

Try somehow to do a Harddrive test to make sure that your Harddrive isn't failing. If it is failing then reinstalling the OS will help you for about a week if you are lucky.

Well I agree with others that have stated you need to re-install windows but....If you have an actual copy of windows xp you can do a repair on the operating system instead of doing a full format and re-install of windows. This way by doing just a repair it will re-write all the windows files, get you back to your desktop, and will leave your personal files intact, minus any programs that you installed, or updates that you had previously did...these will need to be done again. Now as someone has suggested that maybe you had a virus...you tell me, as I don't know exactly what you did to get to the point that you are at right now. But, if you think a virus did put you at this point and you backed nothing up (big no no!) Then do a repair of windows so you get back to the desktop, then back up your personal data, then do a full format and reinstall of windows back onto your computer. I'd say this is your safest bet if you did not back up your data.

The main file system is corrupt and no matter what you do it wont boot up. You need the main restore Cd's and just do a whole system restore. Hopefully you backed up everything b4 hand otherwise you lost everything either way. Thats the only way. (Well the easiest way b4 programming) (Comming from a computer technician)

I agree in general with the diagnosis. But before you format it go to the Recovery Console (it is an option when you boot to that recovery CD) and type chkdsk /f. If that doesn't fix it there are options to repair install it instead of formatting it clear back. That way you will still have your programs and data and it ought to fix it.

Could be alot of things. Hardware shorting out,OS on hard drive is corrupt, could be a virus or bug.
The only thing I could tell you is try a system restore or recovery.

you would be better to go to your nearest computer shop and get them to fix it as it sounds like you have a virus that has infected everything on the computer and that would be why it wont go any further than XP loading screen. i hope this has helped

Have you changed any hardware or drivers or so? if so, try to undo the changes.
Try using a boot disk and running chkdsk.exe to check your HDD for errors.
