The VA situation is nothing new.....as a Vet, I have always used my own medical...Ive left the VA for those that need it more than me....
There has always been a back log and less than stelar service. Just an example of Socialized Medicine, not working.
I must say, my son has had good fortune with the VA...He has no complaints as an injured Vet, he gets good service

NOTE: Logical373.......You are what I consider a god dammed Traitor...You are a miserable excuse for an American....Your scrawny Liberal Azz should be on the front lines and used as bait for gunfire

Any Vet will tell you that VA has always had issues when it comes to quality medical care. It's been that way forever. I think the reason it's been that way is largely due to the method in which it operates. Civilian hospitals run their hospitals as a business whereas VA hospitals typically run their hospitals as a government entity.

As a Veteran, I would much rather go bankrupt getting the best care possible than take my chances at a VA hospital, eventhough it would be significantly less expensive. As the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for."

I feel that the need for change has always been there, but typically Veterans are sometimes treated like second class citizens, especially in regards to their healthcare. Too much bureaucracy, and no one (especially Congressmen, or Senators) likes a whiner. Congress has always put Veterans on their back-burner.

If change does happen, I will be VERY surprised.

Well, it's become quite the hot issue. This is a situation that the Republican administration has created all the while sending young soldiers into danger. Many news sources have traced the cuts in veteran medical care and benefits right back to the current president, George W Bush. His administration also cut pay for enlisted men and women in Iraq. Health care in general in the US is atrocious. A key part of the Dem platform for taking back the White House is (and must be, we are all fed up ) health care reform. It needs to be done, regardless of party lines. The way the health care system is right now, it's like the mob is running it.

I don't think it is of a majority of Democrats/Republicans that are not concerned as it used to be....there are some things starting to come to surface about the evil-doin' administration at the White House. Bush, Cheney, Rice, and good 'ol Rummy boy Lied....thousands got maimed and also died!!! I think because that the rise in the number of Republicans / Democrats against them is starting to finally force an allowance of any truce to come to surface, (truth always does...). Secrets always come out into the open...too many around the world want to know more.

I've always been concerned over the devastation that the administration had created after manipulating Congress and The House, Just to get what they want...Secretively, and not saying what, but their secret WILL come to surface. A pretty damn senseless war for us to send over the innocent men/women of our forces/coalitions. They (Administration), know as well how senseless this all is! Nutheads like them won't admit to any mistakes they caused and now its all at the cost of things we can't afford.

Just like Rumsfeld said in a speech a while back...."We now know, what we don't know..." and then turned around and kept it a secret from telling what they really did know deep into their minds.....NOTHING.

we should make the administration PAY for the care our soldiers need.....

God Bless the troops and allies!!

I am very concerned. These men and women deserve the best of care that the US can provide. I think the military has been making an effort since the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed were made public.

I am they have risked their bodies and have lost limbs and brain matter for this war.
They seem to be able to get good health care immediately after the incident but follow up and rehab is a bit*h.
To have even one of our soldiers desperately in need of help, left to lie in pool of urine is totally unacceptable.
Asking them to pay for meals and to pay back for damaged body armor is unacceptable.
All we can hope for is that the Bush Administration does not continue the privatization of VA hospitals which was a major contributing factor to the Walter Reed debacle. Privatization was just another way for their rich cronies to make yet more money at our expense, unfortunately it was the expense of our soldiers. IAP Worldwide Services, the company that was awarded a 5 year contract to provide services to Walter Reed, just happens to coincidentally be owned by someone formerly with .......you guessed it! Halliburton.
Hopefully the bi partisan group led by Donna Shalala and Bob Dole actually comes up with viable solutions.

Very concerned. I feel that the VA administration has inadvertently created a sub standard category for medical care. I do not understand why the VA can not be merged with what we traditionally refer to as private health care.

it didn't look like anyone washed their hands of anyone,..... in the article you referenced the story centered around 1 man horribly injured, and it spoke of how he was flown to Germany for emergency surgery, and then on to Texas and has subsequently undergone over 30 surgeries.

sounds like he was taken care of to me?............and he tells a tale of triumph. i hope all soldiers are taken care of as well, that is definitely the responsibility of our government.

you trying to stir something up here, sweetheart? ;)
