We just built our home and still have mud around the house as we have not been able to put our yard in becuase of the winter. All winter long we have had these bugs flying around the house that look like mosquitoes, but do not bite. They are worse now that the weather is warm. We cannot find the source. We do have a sub pump and they do seem to be more in the bathrooms but are all over the house. Any info would be appreciated.

Around here we call them mud dobbers. I guess they like to lay eggs in mud. You must live in a warmer climate to see them all winter. I am also guessing that you live near woods or a swampy area. You could try fanning them out of your house for the time being. Like flies they will fly out the door if you herd them by flapping a towel or sheet after them. When you have grass it shouldn't be a big problem but you can burn citronella patio candles and torches to keep them away from your yard. Like mosquitoes they detest smoke too.

Mosquitoes or not, all you have to do is get a basin of water and place it where there are lots of this tiny insects. Then apply oil to your strainer or any plastic container. Then sway it around the insects. For sure, they will stick to the oiled container. But if you have chicks or chickens, you better put them to the place with more insects. That's what we did when this so-called gamu-gamo appeared 6 - 10 days before it rained here.
