Why not? Its a great way of conserving energy naturally. Its unfortunate that we don't use this method more frequently. It would definately benefit the environment.

Two reasons:
1) It's more environmentally-friendly than conventional houses.
2)A solar-powered house isn't going to be hurt by a power outage from the main grid, at least not as badly.

It's all about money. I have experience with solar equipment, and I am from the pacific(Marshall Islands). Thanks to global warming, we're getting tons of sun. Water heaters cost a fortune to buy and maintain.

you can, but it only works where you don't need a/c, & you can heat with wood, & you have a water source that can be easily diverted, ie. not pumped/lifted great heights.....
very few places
220 for water well, 110/220 for ac pretty much kill the deal unless you're willing to put up with some serious inconveniences
