As a wildlife photographer I can assure you that having the right equ. (lens etc.) and patience is only part of it.
Subject, lighting, & surroundings are another part. Time of day is very important.
Then there is your safety-taking pics. of carnivors can be an experience in itself, not to mention human hunters.
Even the type of clothing you wear is important (cotton/all natural stuff-no leather at all). No added scents at all-go natural.
Get permission from the land owner where you wish to take photos.
One of the most important items is to know about the type of animal you wish to get pics of and what other ones share that area.
If you are very very lucky you might get a doz. good pics in one day.

Get a camera, learn to use it well, then practice extreme patience. Wildlife does not just pose. You have to be in the right place at the right time and wait for the critters to make themselves available to photograph!
