You don't give a lot of details so I assume you are importing or shipping something in ocean containers.

You have a certain number of days (usually five) in which to either load or unload your container and return it to the port.

All ocean carriers will charge you x dollars a day for demurrage beyond the five day period.

The demurrage rate is set out in the carrier's tarriff.

Logisitcs is related to movement of goods from manufacturers/sellers to buyers/users.It involves transportation and transporters.Tranpsorters could be using any means of transportation like road, rail, sea, air.Eventually the goods will be brought to the nearest location from where these have to be either collected by the buyers/users or they have to pay for these goods. In case buyers/users do not collect them or ensure payments to the sellers, transporters can not part with these goods. In such cases they continue to " Store" them.Who pays for this storage? naturally the buyer/user.These charges are known as Demurrage charges.
