What does the story tell you it should be?
This isn't a question you ask other people. You, as the writer, must determine what your overriding message is. Do you have one? What is it you want the reader to come away with at the end of the story? What does your plot tell you the ending should be? What does character development dictate the ending should be? The ending of a story should not be some arbitrary thing you do just to appease a majority. It should be a logical conclusion to what is, hopefully, an intelligent story with a purpose.

something that would leave ur reader thinking abt the novel even after they have finished reading it... maybe happy but not exactly hopeless... i think... creepy xD ... watched 'the ring'?
if yes...
remember how the kid tells her that SHE (the girl with the long hair in the well... srry cant remamber her name) never sleeps and that she wants to be heard and then its a 'happy' ending cause racheal and her son survive... but then its creepy cause they copy the tape and pass it on... and it still lives ....
sth like that would be great fot horror (:

I hate, hate, hate the sort of ending where you think the Big Bad Nasty Thing has been conquered only for it (or Baby Big Bad Nasty Thing) to turn up in the last paragraph. Happy or sad, I don't care, just don't go for the false ending.

Personally I would go with a Happy ending, for younger people.
And if it was older people I would go for a horror story.
It really depends on which age group is going to read this.
Hope this helps.

I prefer ending that I cannot predict!
This happen to me very rarely!
Whatever unpredictable end would be OK!
Good luck!
