I want great beaches, hot weather,not lots of rain,something to do at night and not to costly! p.s In mid august time!

Hawaii hands down. There are beautiful beaches and lots and lots to see and do. It's warm enough (in the 80's) but not awfully hot and humid like Cancun and the rest of Mexico/the Caribbean in August. You'll melt down there.
At Cancun, you'll only be safe if you stay on the strip, the hotel/tourist area as it's in a poor and dirty third world country. Hawaii is one of our most beautiful states, more genteel than even the mainland. Are you kidding?

That's a tough question. Mexico is definitely cheaper than Hawaii and well known for its nightlife, though Hawaii's low season is the summer when it's hot. Of course, you can drink the water in Hawaii without worry and feel safe renting a car or other tour operations. It also has world class surfing, diving, snorkeling, waterfalls, etc. I love to just rent a car and go driving.
I'm not sure, but you might want to check the average rain falls in August for both Hawaii and Cancun.
I would choose Hawaii just to ride the new Super Ferry between the islands. Should be cheaper than a plane fare - http://www.hawaiisuperferry.com/.
If you choose Hawaii, ask another question about the specific island you're considering to discover the best beaches there and low cost accommodations.
Admittedly I'm biased to Hawaii having been to Oahu and the big island of Hawaii itself. In Mexico, I've only been to the Baja part three or four times.

I f you are looking for nightlife, beaches, and a great place an people go to Hawaii. Ohau has alot of what you will be looking for, stay on Waikiki beach area. Should be a great time for you, alot fo beaches to pick from an alot of clubs. Good luck.

Hanauma Bay for snorkelling and North Shore in Hawaii, for great waves and surfing.The best holiday i ever had.Totally chilled,and the locals were very friendy,considering their islands been taken over by Americans and Japanese.P.S, the Japanese are spot on as well,very well mannered.
