ohh-it sounds like could be acid reflux.
does he arch his back, choke or gag while he is eating?
the fact that it shoots out of his mouth sounds like the AR.
my friends daughter has it- they found out before she left the hospital--she did the same thing.

It is possible that it could be relux. My son has it the best thing to do is keep him upright for 20-30 min after each feeding. this will help him digest most of the milk well enough to be put down. It could also be that he's allergic to the formula your giving him. My son was on Similac Advance when he came home from the hospital, but he kept throwing up and sometimes like you explained he would vomit far distances. When the dr put him on a new formula (Isomil Advance) that seemed to help. Of course because of his reflux he still would spit up sometimes. My son also has had problem with coughing especially when he's eating. For him it's because he has a lot of drainage from his nose that's getting caught in his throat. If you've ever noticed in yourself milk can make mucus secretions thicker and harder to cough out, so what I do is mix an extra ounce of water into his bottle to thin it out a little. . It doesn't hurt him because he's gaining weight like a champ.

It sounds like reflux or allergies to the formula or even something your eating that's mixing into your breast milk, I would change his formula to a soy formula and watch what you eat, try to stay away from spicy foods and some of the known allergens like peanut butter, shell fish, everything you eat gets put in the breast milk.. also I would try to feed him smaller amounts, but more often that will give him time to digest his food, burp him often also in and upright position, and when you lay him down don't make it flat on his back you need to prop up the top end of the crib or bassinet (books or something will work ) and lay him on his side he is coughing because he is spitting up on his back and can't get it out so it's choking him.
good luck with your little guy I went through this with one of my sons, he is 13 now

We raised three kids. Most coughed/barfed up some excess after meals once in a while at that stage. It was always representative of what was just consumed - so it wasn't clear unless they just had water. It also never shot out.
I agree with the first reply you received.

its really normal, my baby started to do it at 1 month too, shes nearly 4mths and still does it all day long, my dr says its normal, and the reason hes coughing is cos its choking him, , my 3rd child did it alot and i had to tilt his cot up with some books so that he was tilted up, and i let my babies sleep on their sides, my pediatrician said it was better cos he used to spit up alot, my babies spit up is watery and thats cos its digested, and sometimes very chunky because it changes texture when the milk goes down their stomach , and a few times there was bits of bright yellow stuff in it, i s h i t myself, my dr said it was nothing to worry about, just some bile from when she spit up the acidy liquid, with 4 kids ive seen alot of spew, and my eldest is 10yrs, their spew gets worse with age
, good luck with bubs, your dr will say its ok, im real sure, the only reason they worry is if they are spewin the whole feed and arnt gaining weight

Sometimes when a baby that young "over feeds" that is what happens. Its absolutely normal and nothing to worry about. You should feed him only the correct amounts for his age and not more. Try laying him on his right side when he sleeps too. My nephew was like that until my dad layed him on his side and the coughing stopped.

im sure its because of all the nice smelling products, but i understand they smell good before products to! im guessing its like that ditingushied smell that your having with your sibling with there fresh cells and that? im not entirely sure though. I kinda put this to cows lol, when a cow gives birth it smells the calf a lot and starts licking off the after birth to clean it off. It also eats its sac(like the placenta) when that comes out the mother of the baby or anyother cow will eat it because they like the smell and it has a ton of nutrients in it for them!
