Japan entered WWII in order to gain control over East Asia and the Pacific. Before WWII, in the 30's, Japan had already invaded China in order to regain control of China. Japan was afraid of the United States' growing power in the region. In my opinion Japan realized that a war with the Untied States was their only hope for total control of East Asia. That's a pity - you needing a description of 'why' it was caused by Japan. Because the problem is that Japan did not cause World War Two.
World War Two began on September 1 1939, because Germany had invaded Poland. Japan remained neutral until 11 December 1941, when it attacked Pearl Harbour, Hong Kong, Malaya and the Phillipines. Japan was the immediate cause of the United States joining the Second World War.
Why did Japan attack the US in 1941? Mostly because they felt that the US and Great Britain were limiting Japan's ambitions (for colonial power and trade) in Asia. Japan particularly resented the limits placed on the size of its navy by international treaties sponsored by the US and Great Britain.
But the real answer to your question is that you need to look at your question again, or talk to whover gave it to you to solve.

Japan alone didn't cause WWII. Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbor gave the Pres. justification to go to war. A more important reason for going to war was to encourage economic growth in the U.S. by the mass production of war supplies. This was extremely effective to bring the U.S. back on its feet especially after the Great Depression. Japan tried to bomb Pearl Harbor because Hawaii was the main U.S. naval stronghold on the Pacific and Japan wanted to exercise complete control over the Pacific Ocean. This was a huge problem because obviously Japan was allied with Hitler during the war. Pearl Harbor pissed enough people off to allow the President to make the decision to go to war. This was a pretty difficult task because most Americans the generation before had experienced extreme loss of life during the first World War. Well anyway, the U.S. wanted to destroy the strength of Japan's navy because it would be a very crippling blow as Japan's navy was the strongest military branch they had. This resulted in what was called island-hopping as the U.S. navy fought the Japanese on very small Pacific islands.

Japanese Expansionism CONTRIBUTED to the outbreak of World War two .. if you need this answer to help you with an essay please make sure you use the word CONTRIBUTED to as NO one cause or nation CAUSED the war alone and it will show that you are aware of that.
Japan wanted more land and more resources and felt that they had claim on some of the land belonging to other nations. The also coverted the labour of other nations
there is also one theory that the way the Japanese were disregarded After world war one also contributed to the Japanese resentment . Many allied nations *benefited* from the Versaille treaty but Japan was not granted *rewards* that other allied nations were.

Japanese alone did not cause the WWII alone.
The immediate Causes of World War II are generally held to be the German invasion of Poland, and the Japanese attacks on China, the United States, and the British and Dutch colonies. In each of these cases, the attacks were the result of a decision made by authoritarian ruling elites in Germany and Japan. World War II started after these aggressive actions were met with an official declaration of war or armed resistance.
The Second Sino-Japanese War (July 7, 1937–September 9, 1945) was a major war fought between the Republic of China and the Empire of Japan, both before and during World War II. Although the two countries had fought intermittently since 1931, full-scale war started in earnest in 1937 and only ended with the surrender of Japan in 1945. The Japanese invasion was a strategic plan made by the Imperial Japanese Army as part of its large-scale plans to control the Asian mainland. Before 1937, the two sides fought smaller engagements in the so-called "incidents." The 1931 invasion of Manchuria by Japan is referred to as the "Mukden Incident". The last of these was the Marco Polo Bridge Incident of 1937, marking the official beginning of full scale war between the two countries. From 1937 to 1941, China fought alone. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Second Sino-Japanese War merged into the greater conflict of World War II.
Attack on Pearl Harbor
The Imperial Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, hoping to destroy the United States Pacific Fleet at anchor. Even though the Japanese knew that the U.S. had the potential to build more ships, they hoped that they would feed reinforcements in piecemeal and thus the Japanese Navy would be able to defeat them in detail. This nearly happened during the Battle of Wake Island shortly after.
Within days, Germany declared war on the United States, effectively ending isolationist sentiment in the U.S. which had so far prevented it from entering the war.

As loryntoo wisely stated, Japan is a source-undesirable u . s . a . and Japan tried to create an empire to maintain materials for the era of Asia beginning interior the previous due 1800s. As you will locate, Japan's imperialistic events predated WWII via very nearly 50 years. purely placed, Japan did no longer commence WWII. Germany did while it invaded Poland. human beings continually say "remember Pearl Harbor". besides the undeniable fact that, Japan meant to tell usa beforehand of their deliberate attack on Pearl Harbor, yet by way of a string of unlucky blunders, the courier wearing the typed letter of Japan's reason to attack grow to be previous due and further the letter after the attack had already began. one ingredient human beings ought to remember is that Japan's attack grow to be concentrated purely on the Pearl Harbor naval base and their purely purpose grow to be to sink as many ships interior the harbor as they might to paralyze the Pacific Fleet. Japan attacked inland from the north for 2 motives: a million. to maximise ask your self. 2. to cut back civilian casualties via attacking removed from, no longer in direction of, the outlying civilian aspects. it is likewise why the attack grow to be finished on Sunday morning, while many servicemen/women folk have been on-shore removed from the backside.
