expand your knowledge base- read, read, read, read and then when your bored read some more.- yes, yes, yes- intellect is defined differently by different people but by reading (and i mean more than comics here) you are increasing your knowledge base which means you are in a better position to conduct or hold conversations with other people, and importantly even when discussing subjects in which the other person is an expert- you know enough to ask intelligent questions- this in turn leads to a greater understanding and so it continues.

Part of being "intellectual" is demonstrating perception and analytical ability, and some "intellectuals" are, as a result, quite pedantic about things such as spelling and punctuation. Paying attention to detail in one's own written communications - for example, capitalising the personal pronoun "I," and the first letter of a sentence - would constitute a good start to being perceived as an intellectual. :)
