I've just started a new job and am receiving unwanted attentiont from my boss.
He is about 20 years older than me but keeps making remarks about me and the way I look,
ie "Oh your hair looks lovely today".
I've only been working at the job for 2 weeks and I don't like it.
Last Friday he asked me out for a drink.
I told him I am happilly married and don't want to get involved.
Should I contact the union about him or politely tell him to stop it or I will leave.
Your suggestions would be welcome
thanks.

Strange thing is you've already found the solution for yourself...i.e. First do it the right way legally and morally ... politely ask him (written) if you like to stop making such advances, as they are sending out the wrong signal. If he's a decent man he would either...stop doing it or clear any misunderstandings/ miscommunication you and he may have had.
If he still persists...the law will be your final answer.
Things may back fire if you run to the union directly w/o giving your boss any prior warnings, caz chances are he may turn around and say that you've never brought it to his attention, (although you may have mentioned it to him a hundred times before) but then a man can lie to save his a*s, if you know what I mean.
Be safe and all the best.
P.S. - if you've got a good husband, don't forget to take him into confidence regarding this matter

Write him a letter, stating what you have stated here, that his flirty attention and his personal remarks are unwanted and that they are to stop immediately. Make sure you state some examples of his inappropriate behaviour in your letter and when they occurred. Keep a copy of the letter. If there is any more silliness after you have told him to stop in writing, send copies of the letter to everyone up the chain above your boss, the Human Resources Department, your union rep, etc. etc.

sounds like sexual harassment to me, that stated are not getting in contact with him, the place of work gossips will or are having a field day with this. also, regrettably, many cases in this manner of situation the boss never finally ends up searching for yet another pastime besides the indisputable fact that the objective of his affection does. Have a delightful chat with him and tell him good to back off.

If he has not asked you out again, and his most innapropriate comment is "your hair looks nice today" there's nothing you can do. I hope he leaves you alone but if he pushes you further contact the union. For now tell him politely to stop.

Before you take ANY action, you NEED to document everything. Note the date, time & what was said. Documentation is your friend.

Tell HIM. That's the problem with working with women, they always cause problems by involving other people. Just handle it. You wanted to put on pants and act like a man so, act like one and take care of your own business.

nicely tell him you enjoy working there but you are feeling uncomfortable with his comments and asking you for a drink. Ask him to please stop and if he persists then go to HR or his boss...good luck
