The days of Reagan were dark and produced the Dead Kennedy's greatest works, for example. Now, things are even worse, yet music has become rather apolitical.

Hey, cvq, I do know all those bands, of course. We are probably around the same age. But it just seems like the bite of the Clash and DKs and MDC, etc has become totally neutered. RATM is awesome, but more or less finished. Also, riot grrrl bands are dead--Courtney Love is a plastic surgery disaster, but at least we have Peaches and Gossip. If anyone knows of any new bands with balls, do let me know!

I dunno about the "darkness" of the Reagan years, or whether there are good punk bands today. But check out some of the older ones! There's Rage Against the Machine, of course - which I think is re-forming, but have you ever heard of Gang of Four? Rhino just re-released their first album, Entertainment. (And yes, they were albums then - I was there!) My goodness, even Iggy Pop and the Stooges just released a new disc. Good punk angst and anger is timeless.

I agree - Dead Kennedys had bite. That first record was groundbreaking! I also thought Jello Biafra had some solo projects and spoken word regordings available.

I think you answered you're own question. Were you even alive in the 80's? I bet you're some 15 year old that thinks you know everything about music. Go back to the mall and let you're mom buy you Hottopic clothes because you're so unique.

Real music died. now music is more about money and looks. The pussycat dolls wouldn't be as popular if they looked like Mama Cass.
