People used to clap and cheer, now it's all high pitched squeals and yelps. This happens in nearly all shows now(especially dancing on Ice, X factor, Deal or no deal etc.) and even occurs when someone is actually singing or talking.
I've not heard anyone else complain about this so it makes me think I'm turning into Victor Meldrew, it really gets on my t1ts.Is there anyone else out there who feels the same?

I agree ,some men are drama kings but it's the high pitched shrieks of women that really grate.

You've never seen clips of the Beatles, Elvis or Cliff Richard on their tours in the Sixties then? But I do think you have a point. However, with the dumbing down of television shows, should the audience not be allowed to dumb down as well?

We wait for the first guy in the audience to grunt.. And then for ubiquitous grunting from the male audience during Big Brother, while the women squeak.

I haven't been to the theatre in Britain in years, and you've scared me from ever going back...

But some of the titles I've heard and billboards I've, it just sounds like theatre isn't really going anywhere. I don't know, you've just added to my thoughts that it's just low class pandering to the lowest common denominator, Harry Potter nude on stage, raging smokers, like soap operas minus the closeups, mass hysteria.

However, that's better than cinema in Belgium. I've been around silent, and I do mean silent, audiences where you felt uncomfortable laughing at the funny bits.

It's a natural human reaction I presume. Some people are overzealous while others blatantly want attention. No, it's not just you. I find it equally vexing but sometimes, you just have to deal with things. This is something that is hardly in your control.

Yeah, wish they'd shut up! I'm a female too, what I especially hate is when they scream when a boy band or some allegedly good looking guy is on, its just pathetic and degrading! Wish they'd have some self respect!

yeah there are some drama queens out there allright - but to be fair there are quite a few drama kings as well!!
I think its just a desperate bid to get attention - hoping the camera will swing in their direction - or when the show is aired on tv - to tell their friends.. listen out - THATS me!!!!!!

Sad really!

I hate the squeals and squeaks of (usually teenage) women in the library more. Why do the librarians not terrify them in to silence any more?

I cant stand it either, but to make things worse there is a 52 year old women in my office who always talks in a baby voice. Think I might be getting the sack soon as really tempted to slap her one!!!!

Not so much as very loud music (background) playing when the actors are talking in drama progs like Prison Break.

Yep, it's very annoying and doesn't sound genuine in the least but as I can't stand Noel Edmonds and have never watched it I can't comment on his show!

Yeah, they annoy me too. I don;t see how anybody on stage could make anybody in the audience turn into a complete moron!
