The Iranians behave as if they are losing their (political) mind, threats, kidnapping of military men.
what makes them act that way? is their leadership acting upon some plan or are they acting up, as a show of beligerence, looking for trouble.

I think they are testing the UK and the US. Iran is hoping the UK will want to negotiate (by dropping sanctions) for the release of the soldiers. If the UK decides to attack Iran, the world will see the UK as instigators, just like the US in Iraq. The rest of the world will take pity on Iran and drop sanctions. Iran sees it as a win, win situation.

Iran's pres is showing off for the Islamic states.
He gains political currency in their eyes by taunting the West.
He's playing a dangerous game of "Chicken".
Any reaction by the Wesy will inflame the situation in the region even more.
That's his ace in the hole
No response..Iran wins..
Negotiation...Iran wins..We made them bow to us.
They know a measured military response would be ineffective... they love death...more martyrs...Iran wins.
All out military response....nobody wins, but when you deal with irrational people, they will think they won by generating more hate & prolonging the conflict in the region.
