i was just wondering, how long would it take to get to the maximum level on guild wars?

An easy way to level is to find a high level character to group with you and take you out and kill high level mobs. All you have to do is stand in their radius and you get exp. That's how I leveled and it usually took me like a week or two to reach level 20.

It depends on which game your playing actually. The Prophecies (the first one) was the slowest, it'd take a week or three depending on how much time you spent. Factions was designed to get yo to PVP as soon as possible, so you'd be at level 20 before you left the tutorial island! Factions (the latest) splits the difference, faster than Prophecies, slower than Factions.
It of course all depends on how much playing time you put to the game. And how you focus on playing when you do play.

In Prophecies, you can get to lvl 20 in 20-30 hours by normal means.
In Factions, you can get to lvl 20 in 4 hours by normal means.
In Nightfall, you can get to lvl 20 in 12 hours by normal means.
