What makes Dr. Victor Chang a "hero"??

Im doing an essay for english and i have to explain why Dr Chang is a hero/what makes him a hero ect.

i know a few things but cant really expalin why that makes hima hero? please give me a few ideas or something?

Hero? Role-model for the Chinese community would be a better term. Though an aspiring surgeon would call him his/her hero.

Between 1984 and 1990 Dr. Chang's unit performed over 197 heart transplants and 14 heart-lung transplants.
90% Of those receiving transplants from the unit surviving beyond the first year. That is bloody brilliant. (no pun intended)
