There is no danger to the computer from having a phone nearby.

In the "old" days, it was said that you should keep your floppy discs away from the phone, because the electromagnetic field created by the phone when it rang was strong enough to scramble the data on the discs.

These days, however, most phones don't use magnetic relay ringers, and even if they did, it wouldn't hurt today's computers.

For me, I try not to put near my computer. Because everyone know the radiation of cell phone makes certain noise to desktop speaker. This is when you got a call or receive a message, the phone increase its signal to maximum causing the speaker input circuit to produce a noise.
So, you cannot say that this radiation won't wipe data from hard disk when you place near to it.

It is perfectly ok to place a phone near to a computer, you will lose no data, if its a land line phone you need it anyway for the connection and if its a mobile they work in a completely different way. Your computer will work through electrical signals which are direct signals and your mobile will work through radiowaves, indirect signal.
Don't worry your data is safe

I don't think so. I often put my phone on the desk right next to the monitor and sometimes it's right next to my laptop on my bed....so no it won't wipe data from your computer. Unless someone else has a tragic story saying otherwise...

If it did we'd all be out of business!

Most office desks have phones and computers, the only wipe outs here are caused by human error :)

Yes it's ok now. It used to be bad, there were a lot of parts in the computers that were magnetized and not protected. Now the componates are coated and protected.

I don't know but it makes mine make weird noises. So I don't let any ones cell phone near it. The regular land line phone doesn't do that, but the handset on the portable does.
