Both of my children started walking at 9 months but that is early. I think the average baby is over 12 months before they start walking.

Right around their first birthday, babies are usually walking. Some start earlier, 10 months, I've even heard of 8 or 9 months, and some are later to walk, but the first birthday is a good, average age.

Around 12 months is the average but it is quite normal for babies to start walking as early as nine months or as late as 18 months. I had a friend who didn't walk until she was 2, not because she couldn't but because she was quite content to sit and crawl!

Babies aren't like machines and you can never predict at what age they will achieve their milestones but if you are ever concerned about a child's progress contact your doctor or health visitor :)

It obviously differs between children as they all develop at their own rate. However, usually around the age of 12 months, babies are walking or showing signs of getting there.

My daughter started to walk at ten and a half months (!) which is very early, and my son walked at about 1 year of age, which is about normal. It depends very much on the child, whether they have older siblings etc, but it's very roughly about one year of age.
