Is r squared (for modelling with graphs) the same thing as the correlation coefficient?

if it isn't, then could you please tell me the correct name for r-squared?

No R gives the quality of the correlation

r is comprised between -1 and +1

An absolute value near of one means that the correlation is excellent. Suppose the two variables are x and y R=+1 means x proportional to y, r=-1 x inversely proportional to y. of course r^2 lies between 0 and 1 , 0 meaning no correlation , 1 excellent correlation
