The true answer is neither. It is not the manufacturer or the builder of the computer which is good but more importantly the parts that are used. I had a Dell before i knew much about PC's and when it comes to upgrading it is not worth it. If you want a PC to last and be future proof a Custom PC is the way to go. Look around on the Internet and read reviews for new hardware eg. The core 2 Duo and nVidia's new DX10 video cards and find out a budget then begin looking at the cost for the parts you want. If you can't build a PC yourself there are many people or shops that would do it for you for a small fee. Dell PC's are always almost overpriced for the parts they use so in the end it's not worth it. With custom you get exactly what YOU want and for YOUR needs.

After working on name brand computers for the past 5 years and seeing the type hardware put into these computers I personally would never purchase a name brand computer.

I would custom build my own. I have three personal custom built computers that in my opinion have far better hardware and perform so much better than name brand computers.

If your still set on a name brand computer I would say Dell. Dell's hold up better and have the better of the hardware installed. I do not like there tech support though.

Realistically it depends upon what you're using the computer for and the specs of the computer. Personally I'd go with a Dell because I already have a Dell laptop and have never experienced any problems with it.

The Dell may be cheaper but HP is far better in all respects.
You get what you pay for.

If you mean which one's better, I think they are much the same. Still, I think Dell's being used in a lot of offices worldwide.
