because a flying hippos landing on a tree would break the trees
and they dont make wing big enough to carry a hippo
they would block out the sun
and we would be walking in darkness most of the time when it was hippo season.

If a hippo had wings it would take so much energy to fly that it would starve to death by the time it finished a flight.

Why indeed.
They kill more people every year in Africa than any creature. And thats just swimming and running about. Imagine if they could fly.
They would take over Kenya, Africa and then the world.

Because man hasn't got round to genetically altering them in that way yet.
Give it time, it might happen, after all they have made mice grow human ears on their backs, so it must be possible.
Given eternity and infinity, anything that is possible will happen.
